Karama Caramel Master Weaver Sisal Basket M
Let's go to galleries on Sunday afternoon and find some rare vintage pieces in the flea market. If you're really into unique decor objects, these sisal baskets are your treasure.
These baskets are technically perfect, produced by master weavers in Swaziland. They are usually inspired by nature or scenes from rural eSwatini and they reflect the timeless aesthetics of contemporary African design.
Sisal is a species of Agave, native to southern Mexico but widely cultivated and naturalized in many other countries. It yields a stiff fiber used in making various products. Sisal fibers are cut from the plant with a machete. The sisal fibers are then either left in their raw state or dyed with natural, eco-friendly colors depending on the design.
Our partners in Eswatini are from a rural part of the country, known for its refined sisal basketry technique and quality jewelry making. The collective encourages both personal and professional growth, offering various courses and workshops ranging in a variety of subjects such as; leadership, skill-set development, environmental awareness and women's health. To date, the collective has trained, and worked with over 1 400 women in rural Eswatini.
