Bolgatanga Fans- Set of 2
Do you read books and need some fresh air from the digital world? These African fans are your right choice: traditional natural dye sweet grass fans with a brown leather handle that adds an elegant look to your wall.
The fans are the result of a long process: from harvesting the sweet grass, drying and dying the fibers to weaving and adding the leather handle cover. Each fan has its own look, adding a unique atmosphere to any wall.
How to hang - Fans come with a hanging loop.
Sweetgrass (named after its sweet savannah smell) is a major tropical grass that is one of the highest yielding tropical grasses. It's called "elephant grass" because it's a convenient height for elephants to eat and hide. Sweetgrass is a sustainable material: it grows fast – up to three meters tall − on poor agricultural land. It is easy to grow and requires little or no care.
Our partners in Ghana are based in Bolgatanga, a historic, small town in the northern region of Ghana, West Africa. The artisans arrive at the compound every day by dozens, sometimes hundreds, of weavers—men, women, and students. Besides building an infrastructure of the work environment and our partners help the artisans with training, education, and practice the principles of Fair Trade.
